I disagree. A friend since a chain mail supporting Joe Arpaio, County Sheriff in Maricopa County (Phoenix). He of the green bologna and pink underwear, good old "nickelbag" Joe a nickname he earned with the DEA for his focus on his personally non-threatening low level busts of college students trading a joint at the local outdoor music festival. It's rumored that back home in Massachusetts, he busted his classmates for bringing bubble-gum to sock-hops. He's much more dangerous now. His upbringing suggests a bully in the making. Mother passed at childbirth, father abandonment. Not his fault but interesting considering his bullying tendencies since. Never popular among his peers, he takes it out on his own kind. The disadvantaged children that eventually populate our jails. Hell, isn't that where he wound up?
Unfortunately, his policies deny basic constitutional rights and human dignity. He brags that feeding a prisoner in his jail is cheaper than feeding a dog. He states that he once arrested Elvis Presley but there are no records to support that assertion. He states his department has a 50 caliber machine gun for use against explosive laden planes and busses. While this may be true, it has been met with much criticism. Most PD's don't use such weapons due to their inherent danger to the public. Besides, how will Joe know when the threat requiring deployment is imminent?
